The "Old Castle" above the Eifgenbach

The Eifgenburg in the Bergisches Land probably goes back to an older system from the time of the Saxon conquest. This older castle was presumably built by Emperor Otto III. destroyed. In the 11th century the castle was rebuilt in keeping with the times. Surrounded by an approx. 220 m long wall. The main gate was covered by a tower that was almost like a donjon. Another gate was built as a side entrance towards the valley.
